Congress may have averted the worst of the fiscal cliff with a last-minute deal Tuesday night — but your taxes are still going up.

If you're an average American worker, you'll see your Social Security payroll tax return to 6.2%, up from a lowered rate of 4.2%. For example: If you make an annual salary of $50,000 pre-tax, you'll be paying $1,000 more in taxes this year.

So why did this happen? The deal passed by Congress ends a two-year payroll tax holiday passed in 2010 in an effort to stimulate economic growth.

Here is the special poem someone sent to us remember those lives lost on December 14, 2012. Never forget! Here's the email.

My wife wrote a poem this morning as she was thinking about the shootings in Connecticut. I would like to share the poem with all of you...I would also like to say--put down your cell phones and play with your kids today.....and every day. I see people (myself included) often placing so much time and emphasis on unimportant things. Re-focus your life where it needs to be. God and family. Here is Cameo's poem. If you like it, feel free to share:

The holidays can be lonely if you’re single.

And if you’ve tried dating websites, listening to friends advice on who you should date perhaps you need to try the Sandy McCulloch approach.

He’s searching for a wife.

At age 82, Sandy says it’s not easy to find someone to bring into his life.

A little background on Sandy, he had three ex-wives by the time he was 39, he learned volumes in the first half of his life about what not to do in a relationship. He was an emotional cripple decades ago, he said, but he has since cleaned up his act.

Ah... Mom, so hard to choose gifts for her. You don’t want to get her something that might offend her, like diet stuff. And you don’t want anything that might make her do MORE work, like appliances...

7 Things A Mom Wants For Christmas

1. A night or two in a hotel room. Alone. No husband, no kids, nobody but me.

2. A massage. From someone other than a child of mine paid a dollar to do it.

3. A new camera to torture my children with.

TREE THEIVES

Every time I drive past one of those Christmas tree lots, I always wonder how many trees are stolen when no one is looking.

A town called Port Republic in South Jersey was having that problem, where thieves were cutting down their beautiful Pine trees that were

put up as a wind barrier around tennis courts and a skating pond.

But this year things are a little different after one town official came up with an idea.

Computer Changes

By 2017, technology will have advanced far enough that computers will be able to see, smell, touch, taste and hear via digital taste buds, newly sensitive pixels and other innovations. You’ll even be able to touch something through your phone!

“If you’re buying a textured fabric, you should be able to run your hand across the screen and get the feeling of touching that fabric,” Meyerson told FoxNews.com. “That’s not as impossible as it may seem.”
