Six months ago today Hurricane Sandy hit the East coast, but for many residents whose homes were badly damaged, recovery is moving at a VERY slow pace – or not at all.

Many of those displaced by the so-called superstorm say they are stuck in limbo, trying to raise money to pay for repairs or replace their homes while coming to grips with new, federal flood-zone maps that many fear will make it too costly for them to return.

It has been a week and a few days since we were captivated and on the edge of our seats watching the capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev unfold in front of our eyes. We were clinging to every piece of information as the media scrambled to tell us about what was going on. Now, we are finding out that during the Boston Marathon bombing manhunt, there was a lot of inaccurate information curciulated due to the chaotic nature of the investigation.

It's prom season and the class of 2013 isn't going cut rate. Prom spending is making a big comeback as the recession eases. A study from Visa and research company Gfk says this spring's average prom bill will top $1,110. Gowns are more elaborate and girls often want two pairs of shoes. One for their entrance and the other for dancing. And it's not just the girls who are going designer. Boys want designer tuxes. A gray tuxedo by Vera Wang is popular this year. It rents for $180 from Men's Wearhouse.

The City of Oak Ridge Public Works Department will be doing routine flushing of the water system starting April 29 through approximately June 1, 2013. Inclement weather may result in delays.

The flushing will be performed between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents in the areas being flushed are advised to consider not washing any laundry during those hours since the flushing may cause temporary discoloration of the water during the process.

A Crossville man is out nearly $5,000 after falling victim to a scam.

Known as the "grandparent scam," the scheme targets elderly people.

The scammers calls an elderly person and pretends to be a grandchild in need of money.

The con has been repeated all over the country, but this week there have been two reports of it occurring in Cumberland County.

One of the victims, a 75-year-old man, has requested his identity is kept hidden.

New York is making news again. You can wake up in a town that never sleeps and find they're banning the salt, banning the fat, banning the drinks and now- they are working on banning young New Yorkers from purchasing cigarettes until they are 21, up from the current 18.
