Best-selling Irish novelist Glenn Meade will speak about his latest book, "The Last Witness," at the Knoxville Writers' Guild's Thursday, Oct. 2 program.
The event, which will be open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Laurel Theater, at the corner of Laurel Avenue and 16th Streets (in Fort Sanders). A $2 donation is requested at the door. The building is handicapped accessible.

Beginning Oct. 15, West Towne Christian Church will offer Calm Parenting University, a 6-week comprehensive parenting program. This course will run on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm from Oct. 15 to Nov. 19. Each week, parents watch a dynamic, one-hour DVD and then discuss specific strategies with a supportive group of parents. It features high-energy, laugh-out-loud funny presentations filled with 40 practical strategies and Biblical principles. This course typically costs $198 but is now only $99 per couple. Goodwill Industries-Knoxville is proud to present the 6th Annual Goodwill Golf Classic on 10/20 in memory of our dear friend and supporter, Jerry Hatmaker. Join us on the green for a day to help support Goodwill's mission of providing vocational training and employment opportunities for people with barriers to employment.
Tournament format will be four person modified scramble. Individual golfers will be grouped into teams of four based on handicaps.

My Place Performing Arts Center is a non-profit organization started by music educator, Paul Daniels, that began in February 2012 that provides music lessons and instruments at no cost to the students ages 7-15.
The Town of Farragut Fire Prevention Office, in conjunction with the Knox County Fire Prevention Bureau, will provide a free Fire Safety and Prevention for Homeowners workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The Town of Farragut Fire Prevention Office, in conjunction with the Knox County Fire Prevention Bureau, will provide free fire extinguisher demonstrations for both businesses and residents on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 10 - 11 a.m. and 2 - 3 p.m. at the Farragut Town Hall.
The demonstrations will feature the Fire Bureau’s fire extinguisher simulator. Participants can attend at any time during the one-hour sessions.

The Cup of Hope Tea Luncheon is a domestic violence awareness event that will coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness month and benefit The Salvation Army's Joy D. Baker Center. The luncheon will be on Wednesday, October 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Bradford Catered Events will be catering the event with a full service tea and lunch menu in the beautiful, fully remodeled Historic Southern Railway Station. WBIR-TV's Robin Wilhoit will be the emcee for the luncheon.
