Folklife Museum to Celebrate Black History Month Feb. 23

The Farragut Folklife Museum will host a free event in honor of Black History Month on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Farragut Town Hall.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Reflections on Community Contributions.” The event will include a reception at 2 p.m. and a 3 p.m. presentation.

Sweetheart's Dinner

Come support the Youth Group at Dutch Valley New Life Church of God by enjoying a nice Italian themed Sweetheart's Dinner on Saturday, February 15th at 6:00pm.

The menu includes, but may not be limited to: Salad, Garlic Bread, Lasagna, and Cannoli Cupcakes. The price is $7 a person or $14 a couple. It starts at 6:00pm with an optional cake walk after the dinner. The cake walk will incur additional cost to participate.

All proceeds will help send our youth to camp this summer.

Harbours Gate has opened its first Inner City Learning Center located in Western Heights.

Offerings include a Women's Wellness Clinic; parenting classes; fine arts; GED prep; and much more.

The Learning Center is open to residents of all Inner city neighborhoods in Knoxville.

Harbours Gate is a local non-profit organization that serves as a front line neighborhood, community and inner city "peace corps" in the inner city.

KWG Hosts Panel Discussing Online Journalism

The Knoxville Writers' Guild will host a panel of writers who will discuss their work in online journalism.

The event, which will be open to the public, begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb, 6, at the Laurel Theater, at the corner of Laurel Avenue and 16th Street in Fort Sanders. A $2 donation is requested at the door. The building is handicapped accessible. Additional parking is available at Redeemer Church of Knoxville, 1642 Highland Ave.

"This will be a panel discussion on online journalism in a changing media landscape," Terry Shaw, KWG education committee chairman, said.
