Couple Celebrates 80 Year Marriage!

A couple in Connecticut who got married on November 25th, 1932 is being honored for their 80-year-marriage by Worldwide Marriage Encounter. 101-year-old John Betar and his 97-year-old wife Ann will be recognized in their hometown of Fairfield on Saturday, February 9th. A rep from WWME explained, "It is truly an honor and a privilege to recognize John and Ann Betar for their commitment to marriage." The organization noted that the award is based on nominations so there are likely other couples out there who have been married longer. The Betars have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The two met as neighbors but ended up eloping because Ann's father had someone else in mind for her to marry. (AP)

Note: Last year we wrote about a couple in Brookfield, Wisconsin who celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary on February 6th, 2012. At a party marking the event, 100-year-old Roy Fleming and 95-year-old Dorothy Fleming joked that the secret to their marriage is that they both know she is the boss.
