Farragut Book Fest for Children
Get lost in a good book! Presented by the Farragut Arts Council and the Knox County Library Farragut Branch, the seventh annual “Farragut Book Fest for Children” will be Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Founders Park at Campbell Station located next to the Farragut Branch Library on Campbell Station Road. Farragut Shopper-News is the event media sponsor.
This educational and entertaining event will offer an array of activities throughout the day, from storytelling to book signings to music. Storytellers will include Laurie Fisher, Lynn Hinkernell and Emagene Reagan. The following local authors will be on hand to meet participants while selling and signing their books: David Boyce, Jean Leigh Claudette, Shawn Kirkpatrick Cline, Sam Darden, David and Mary Faith Enyart, Kathleen E. Fearing, Grant Fetters, Joan Frey, J. Sadie Gray, Gayle Green, Janet Greer, Charles G. Haun, Timothy Joseph, Katy Koontz, Mary Lane McGinnis, Louise Hill Moore, Laura Ogle-Graham, Marilyn Mae Randall, Adele A. Roberts, and Sandi Schulte.
Additional happenings will include art activities, face painting, cookie decorating and the Ruff Reading Program. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character; a character parade throughout the park will be held at 11:30. Magician Michael Messing will be the featured entertainer; musicians Samantha Hatmaker and Conny Ottway will also provide entertainment. The first 400 children will receive free book stickers and a pencil; free hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade will be available beginning at 11 a.m. while supplies last.
In conjunction with this event, the Friends of the Knox County Library will host a used book sale at the Farragut Branch on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, new this year, the Farragut Arts Council asks attendees to donate new and used children’s book for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. The “Farragut Book Fest for Children” is free and open to the public. Special thanks to Costco, Farragut Kroger Marketplace, Lenoir City Utilities Board and Publix for donations and to the Akima Club of Knoxville and Farragut’s FUN Volunteer Program for volunteers. Limited parking will be available at Founders Park at Campbell Station; additional parking will be available at Farragut Assembly of God, located across the street from the park on Campbell Station Road.
