Local Middle School Alcohol Bust!
At least one student was taken to the hospital last week after Powell Middle School officials discovered alcohol among a group of students shortly before school began, school officials said today.
Melissa Ogden, spokeswoman for Knox County Schools, said on Friday during the daily morning pre-school gathering for students who had been dropped off by their buses, school officials found the alcohol among seven students who were in the seventh and eighth grade.
One of the students, she said, was taken to the hospital by their parents.
Ogden said “appropriate disciplinary action was taken,” but she would not share specifics, citing the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
According to the school board’s policy, if a student is found to have alcohol at school they “shall be subject to suspension.”
