The "Tan Mom" Predicament

It must be a slow day in news, but the Today Show scored an exclusive interview the the New Jersey 'tan mom' Patricia Krentcil is out to prove she's a good parent.

The mother of five spoke exclusively with TODAY about the allegations that she took her then-5-year-old daughter to a tanning booth in April.

In the interview she spoke about her very typical home life.

Patricia has been charged with second-degree child endangerment, which carries a prison sentence of up to ten years.

The charges came after her daughter Anna went to school with a sunburn and said she’d gone tanning in a booth with her mother, which prompted a school nurse to contact police.

Anna’s mom says she “never went in,” and “She was not near a bed.

Patricia said that while Anna was burned, it was from the sun and not from exposure to a tanning bed. They were in the pool. She's a redhead.

While Krentcil said that she can handle the jokes about her bronzed appearance, her kids are having a harder time: “They’re mad they’re picking on mommy again.”

Krentcil is due back in court June 4.

  • AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS MOM WAS A TERRIBLE MOTHER BUT AFTER DISCUSSING THIS WITH MY WIFE I CHANGED MY MIND.
  • LYNNE REMINDED ME OF RYLEE WHEN SHE WAS 5 AND HOW RYLEE’S STORY WAS EITHER INCOMPLETE OR COMPLETELY INNOCENT AND HOW THERE WERE TIMES WHEN RYLEE WOULD TELL A DIFFERENT STORY THAN THE FACTUAL STORY.

LET’S SAY THE SCHOOL NURSE ASKED THE LITTLE GIRL. “HOW DID YOU GET TAN”..AND THE 5 YEAR OLD SAYS MOMMY TOOK ME INTO A TANNING BOOTH” WHEN THE TRUTH IS MOMMY TOOK ME TO A TANNING BOOTH AND WHILE SHE TANNED I WAITED IN THE LOBBY WITH THE WORKERS.
