International Biscuit Festival
B97.5 is proud to be a sponsor of the International Biscuit Festival in Knoxville, TN May 15th- 18th. The International Biscuit Festival is a celebration of that most perfect of foods – the Biscuit. The Festival combines food, fun and entertainment to create a unique destination event.
The Southern Food Writing Conference celebrates the art and the craft of writing about food in the South. Join our outstanding panel of speakers as we explore various facets of food in the South, from traditions of cookbooks and family recipes, to the connections of race, gender, income and the environment to the food traditions of the South. You will interact with some of the legends of Southern food writing, and meet the next generation of the profession. Professionals from the worlds of newspapers, magazines, books and blogs will bring their perspectives on the current state of Southern food and those who write about it. The conference is open to food enthusiasts, food writers, and lovers of all things Southern.
The Biscuit Bazaar vendor area opens at 9:00 am to showcase Biscuit-friendly wares, including jams, jellies, honey, sorghum, aprons, kitchenware, artwork and cookbooks.
On 5/18 near Market Square guests with an appetite can stroll down Biscuit Boulevard, a tasting area with more than twenty different restaurants and Biscuit bakers sharing their Signature Biscuits. The Boulevard opens at 9:00 am and closes at 2pm. Guests can purchase $5.00 tickets that allow them to sample up to five different Biscuit creations. Biscuits can also be purchased directly from participating vendors. B97.5 will be participating in Biscuit Boulevard and giving out "Maple Syrup Pork" biscuits courtesy of Famous Dave's Barbeque. One of the highlights of the Festival each year is the Blackberry Farm Biscuit Brunch. The chefs of Blackberry Farm will create a unique “Foothills Cuisine” dining experience in Krutch Park. A limited number of tickets are available for $85 at Biscuitfest.com.
The main event in the afternoon is the Biscuit Bake Off. Contestants selected from a nationwide application process will compete in four categories: Savory Biscuits, Sweet Biscuits, Special Biscuits, and Student Biscuits. The Special Biscuit category seeks the most creative Biscuit creations, while the Student category is for Biscuit bakers who are 18 and under. Finalists will bake live at the Festival.
Applications are also available for the Festival’s Biscuit Songwriting competition, and the ever popular Miss and Mr. Biscuit Pageant.
