Members of the 278th Armored Cavalry unit drove two military trucks to
schools in Knox County on Friday to pick up bags of donated clothing for
the PTA's "Spring Collection Drive."
24-year-old Staff Sergeant Christopher Ward was killed in a suicide car
bombing Saturday in Afghanistan. He was helping deliver textbooks to a
school when the attack happened.
The prosecution rested its case and the defense started its testimony on
Friday afternoon in the trial of a Middle Tennessee man accused of
hitting and killing three people while driving drunk, including an
unborn child last spring.
A single-vehicle crash killed one person and injured two others,
including a child, on Thursday shortly before 10:30 p.m. in Wartburg on
Leonard Williams Road.
