Watch how this young farmer is making a difference in his community!
A five-year-old farmer is donating proceeds from his pumpkin crop to charity. Minnesota farmer Emmitt Cox’s family farm had a bumper crop of pumpkins last year and they weren’t sure what to do with them all. So the five-year-old from Monticello suggested they set up a roadside stand to sell them. He earned $400 from that crop, which he then donated to Toys for Tots.
This season, the crop wasn’t quite as big. “We didn’t get much this year,” Emmitt says. “Some of the seeds did not grow. Not much rain.” But the little farmer still plans on donating the $100 he brought in. The money will go to help build a new playground at his church. Emmitt’s mom Anna Cox is proud of the example her son is setting. “I hope that’s the lesson people can really get from this, is that a Five-year-old can put others before himself, maybe we all can,” she says.
Emmitt is already looking forward to next year’s crop. And he plans on bringing his one-year-old brother Paul in as his partner when he’s old enough. When asked how long he plans to keep up his pumpkin farming, Emmitt says he’ll be at it for at least the next 60 years
