The Young Creative Writer’s Workshop is a free, daylong creative writing workshop designed for area high school students and all Pellissippi State students, but open to the community, with work-
shops in fiction, poetry, songwriting, publication and craft-focused/genre specific topics.
Additional activities include a Quilting Bee, Appalachian Monster Costume Contest, a “Granny Witch”/folk medicine station, the “Writer’s Room” and the Showcase event at the end of the day.
Author Neema Avashia will give the keynote address. Neema Avashia’s first book, “Another Appalachia: Coming Up Queer and Indian in a Mountain Place,” was published in 2022 and was
named Best LGBTQ Memoir of 2022 by BookRiot.
A free lunch is provided.
WHAT? The YWCC is a free event offering food, entertainment, door prizes, an Appalachian monster costume contest, a nationally acclaimed keynote speaker (author Neema Avashia) and workshops in all types of creative writing with professional writers, including songwriting.
WHEN? Saturday, October 28th, from 9:30 – 4:00. You may come for all or part of the day’s events.
