PARIS, March 9 (Reuters) – Matthieu Blazy’s first fall/winter collection for Chanel used lurex and silicone to create shimmering and see-through takes on the Parisian fashion house’s classic tweed skirt suit, with feathery flowers and frills.
At the Paris Fashion Week show, models marched around the Grand Palais, a vast Parisian exhibition hall with a towering glass and steel roof. Giant construction cranes in primary colours provided a backdrop, fitted with light bulbs that flashed as Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” blasted through the space.
Suits were layered with untucked shirts in contrasting patterns and colours, and paired with Chanel’s classic two-tone pump in loud contrasts like red and iridescent lilac.
Several models sported silver slicked-back hair to match shimmering looks in lime green and yellow checks.
Dresses were loose and nodded to flapper styles from the 1920s, with dropped waists and fabric flaring from pleats at the thighs.
Blazy was appointed creative director at the 116-year-old fashion house at the end of 2024 and showed his first collection last October to a star-studded crowd.
Celebrities at the show on Monday included pop star Kylie Minogue, actor Margot Robbie, and K-pop star Jennie.
Chanel, founded in 1910 by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, is privately owned by the Wertheimer family.
In 2024, the latest year for which Chanel has published results, revenues were $18.7 billion, down 4.3% compared to 2023 as a global slowdown in luxury spending hit high-end brands.
Chanel is expected to report 2025 results in May.
