Bring on the chocolate bars, lollipops, and bubble gum! It’s Halloween time! But be sure to have a good dentist on hand.
Calls increase at dental offices this time of year says Dr. Allyson Murchison with Cornerstone Dental Arts, “Emergency visits really ramp up after Halloween and into the holidays with all of the snacks and all of the eating everyone is enjoying. But we are always here anytime you need us.”
And yes, the dentists at Cornerstone Dental Arts are always available for their patients. I myself had a tooth emergency recently.
As I indulged in a sticky, chewy candy recently, it wore off some of a crown from a back tooth. CDA had me in that afternoon with Dr. Murchison. I thought for sure they would need to replace the cap. But no, they saved my tooth and me quite a bit of money. She said instead of replacing the crown, we can try to file that down gently to make it smooth. Yes! And, it worked. I know down the road I will need to replace the crown, but for now, this was the ideal situation!
While I had Dr. Murchison by my side and Halloween approaching, I asked her some questions to help parents handle candy and the kids this time of year.
We covered how much they should eat in one sitting – the answer surely surprised me! Other topics: best and worst candy for teeth. What kind of gum works best and what it actually does for your teeth. It can help fight cavities. We also learn what food is great for kids teeth and why! As well as drinks and what is worst. It’s not soda!
CDA’s Dr. Murchison also says to be sure to the family is brushing and flossing regularly. Oh, we also discuss what kind of toothpaste is best! There are a lot of options out there!!!
