Sept 17 (Reuters) – The White House withdrew on Thursday its nomination of former Oklahoma state trooper Lance Schroyer for Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, issuing a brief statement that did not provide a reason.
ICE, which has been at the forefront of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, has not had a Senate-confirmed director since 2017.
In a Truth Social post announcing the nomination in June, Trump wrote that “Lance has firsthand experience getting Illegal Aliens OFF our streets and, just like ME and our Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, he LOVES the men and women of ICE.” He called on the Senate to confirm Schroyer “IMMEDIATELY”.
A senior adviser to Mullin, Schroyer was a surprise pick, two US officials said at the time, because he had not previously worked at ICE or led a major law enforcement agency.
