All around town, those jack-o-lanterns are holding on for dear life. You could just throw them in the trash, but as it is, 1.3 BILLION pounds of leftover pumpkins make their way to landfills each year, JUST in the U.S. Check out some more eco-friendly/ multi-purpose options below!
- Donate it –Some animal rescues and shelters welcome donations to feed their animals or give these pumpkins as treats! Turns out, pigs & horses really love pumpkins! A simple google will help you find an organization
- Compost it– If you have a compost pile, throw that pumpkin in there! All you need to do is cut it into small pieces first and spread it around
- Bury it – No compost heap? No problem, chop your pumpkin up and bury it
- Make a bird feeder– Love this idea…you can repurpose your pumpkin by turning it into a natural bird feeder in your yard. Try hanging smaller ones from branches, OR you can cut it up and leave it in the yard for birds and other wildlife
IF your pumpkin hasn’t been carved?
- Make a pumpkin planter…sounds super easy…you can even paint it to make it last a little longer…google it!
