The Chicago Fire agreed to transfer high-scoring striker Hugo Cuypers to CF Monterrey of Liga MX, according to multiple media outlets.
The Belgian forward, dubbed “the European Goal Machine” by website SoyFutbol, leads MLS this season with 13 goals in just 11 matches. According to The Athletic, the Fire will receive a $7.5 million fee plus another $500,000 in add-ons for moving Cuypers to Monterrey.
Cuypers amassed 40 goals in 75 matches for the Fire since being acquired for a $12 million fee in February 2024.
This move comes less than two weeks after Columbus Crew top scorer Diego Rossi moved to CF Monterrey for $8 million. Rossi, who produced 37 goals and 20 assists in 88 matches for the Crew, made his Rayados debut on Saturday and delivered an assist in a season-opening 3-2 win.
